Thanks for popping in Jay. Looks like I'm going to have to see you on the club page as opposed to rf. Transmission scene just not working out for me here due to rfi problems. Life's a bitch man! lol

Hi Chris..Many thanks for popping in. Couple of months into the HAB'ing scene now and enjoying it very much. Even though I have bad days like the last couple. 6 payloads and didn't decode any of 'em *sigh*. Can't understand why I sometimes struggle to receive when the Diamond X510N supposed to have so much gain, but there you go, all part of life's rich pattern. Good luck, success with future flights Chris. Wonder if this is a seasonal thing. Winter could be decidedly boring if so. 73 my friend. Brian

Hi Mike, sorry about delay. not used to someone actually using my book hi. Forget to look oops!

Well I can't fault the FunCube Pro+ mate, best 150 quid I've spent. Combined with SDR Console it becomes the complete shortwave listening station. LF to UHF and all modes and as sensitive as any receiver I've owned since the late fifties.

Good for shortwave broadcast bands listening if that's what you're into. However, during my rare bc listening moods I must admit I prefer to use Ham Radio Deluxe and my PCR-1000 simply because of the log book and band scan included in that software. No doubt Simon will include something similar in time.

I'm a data geek, so what I do is feed the audio from my computer (The dongle has it's own built in sound card by the way) to an external usb sound card. I then feed the audio from that back into the line in so other decoding software can be used on the same computer, such as Multipsk, mmsstv, EasyPal-Hybrid etc etc.

SDR Console is free (must get version 2 though as ver 1.5 does not support the dongle)
Simon is continually updating this software, and the latest addition is psk and rtty modes. More to come. Of course all super duper filtering etc is part of the software so all you need is the dongle, antenna and a computer and you're good to go.

Presumably you have already explored the relevant web pages associated, but a must if you go down this route is to join the Pro+ group where the guys are very helpfull and initially got me off the ground. http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Fcdproplus/ Screenshots of SDR are on my site, as I expect you've seen by now. Thanks for your comments on the site by the way. Just added a page on High Altitude Balloons. Always looking for something new to play with here, and naturally the dongle covers the balloon frequencies too ( 70 cms)

Incidentally if you're into aircraft the dongle is great, combined with either a discone or 2 metre ham antenna, for receiving the air band, as it is also for the marine bands.

Drop me another line if you need further help
73 and thanks for popping in. (Pompy is going to be flamin' cold and wet today hi. Bet you're in shorts and flip flops!. Know what it's like as I spent two and half years in Singapore, N'Bornio and Thailand in the sixties. Best years of my life.. I'll be putting on my heavy duffle coat in a minute, but it is November after all.

Best 73 Mike, Brian
